Principle of bibliographic processing
The main virtue of the BIT is the unique bibliographic database of information which has been systematically built and allows searches of the library materials in the BIT, as well as the contents of articles from the most eminent scientific and professional magazines and collections from domestic and foreign meetings in the area of tourism.
The materials in the BIT are arranged according to a few classification systems:
Classification scheme for tourism – KST
KST is a classification system that is used to classify documents from the area of tourism and related topics. This system was created and developed in the BIT by Tomislav Hitrec, D.Sc., a long-term scientist at the institute, with the help of Branka Kesegić, M.Sc., a senior librarian.
Universal decimal classification – UDK
UDK is used in the library of the Institute for Tourism for the classification of other documents which are not connected with tourism or related areas.
UNESCO’s classification scheme
UNESCO’s classification scheme is used to classify documents related to the area of economics.
