UNWTO
The Institute for Tourism is an associate member of the World Tourism Organization – UN/WTO.
AIEST - Association Internationale d'Experts Scientifiques du Tourisme
This international organization of scientists in the field of tourism was established in 1951. Today, it has about 400 members in 50 countries worldwide. The AIEST has made a significant contribution to the understanding of the modern phenomenon of tourism and to the introduction of tourism-related curricula in the university syllabuses. The AIEST publishes the "Revue de Tourism" magazine in three languages: English, French and German, and organizes annual thematic congresses.
TRC - Tourist Research Centre
TRC was established in 1960 in order to promote and facilitate the exchange of information among researchers in the field of tourism and to foster other forms of cooperation among its members. In order to be efficient in its work, TRC has only about 25 members who meet once a year to exchange their specific experiences relative to the research methods and application of their research results.
IH&RA - International Hotel & Restaurant Association
IH&RA is a global network of independent operators, chains of operators, national associations, providers to the hospitality industry and hospitality schools and colleges. It represents 75,000 organizations in over 150 countries. It protects, promotes and informs them in order to help them achieve their goals. IH&RA is the international voice of the industry which comprises 300,000 hotels and 8 million restaurants worldwide, employs 60 million people and contributes 950 billion USD annually to the global economy.
ESOMAR - European Society for Opinion and Marketing Research
ESOMAR is a global association of professional researchers whose mission is to promote the market and opinion research in illuminating real issues and bringing about effective decision-making. ESOMAR was established in 1948, and currently it has about 4,000 members in 100 countries, researchers and market research users alike. Its mission is to facilitate communication and the exchange of experiences between researchers and information users in order to bring about the most effective decision making process.
IFITT
The International Federation for IT and Travel & Tourism (IFITT) was established to promote international discussion about information and communication technologies and tourism and is the leading organization in this field. IFITT organizes an annual conference, ENTER, which gathers industry experts and academics involved in education and research in the area. The conference is also a platform for doctoral studies where the presentation of papers related to doctoral dissertations, as well as workshops for PH.D. candidates, are held (www.ifitt.org).
CULTURELINK
Culturelink, the global Network of Networks for Research and Cooperation in Cultural Development was founded in 1989 by UNESCO and the Council of Europe. Culturelink is involved in the research, collection and processing of information on networks and institutions dedicated to cultural development and international cooperation. Culturelink organizes conferences on cultural and communication issues and publishes the namesake review Culturelink (www.culturelink.org).
ATLAS
The Association for Tourism and Leisure Education was establish in 1991 as a forum to promote the exchange of staff and students from various educational and research institutions which deal with tourism and leisure. Currently, ATLAS has members in 70 different countries.
