History
In 2000, the International Interdisciplinary Journal TOURISM started being published as the international issue of the journal TURIZAM, which has been continuously in circulation since 1953, and is one of the oldest scientific journals in the world. In the first year of its existence, the journal went by the name “Tourism News” which was changed in 1956 to TURIZAM. In 1996, the journal began to appear on a tri-monthly basis and in two languages. Since 2000, it has been printed in two editions: international and domestic editions, whose contents are not always identical.
Significant events were the 50th (2002) and 55th (2007) anniversaries.
The occasion of the 50th anniversary of the journal TURIZAM was marked by the organization of the conference ‘Reinventing a tourism destination’. Works from the conference were published in part in a special issue of TURIZAM, vol.50/4 and in the book: Sanda Čorak, Renata Tomljenovć (editors) 'Reinventing a tourism destination', as part of the science edition of the Institute for Tourism.

At the annual gathering on Days of Croatian Tourism, which was organized by HTZ (Cavtat, October 2007), the editors, Vesna Mikačić (Croatian Edition) and Renata Tomljenović (English Edition), held a lecture on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the publication of the journal TURIZAM. They presented the most significant events from the beginning of the journal’s establishment, and they pointed out the top priorities which the editors envisaged for the future: a) to increase the publication’s quality and upgrade its profile; b) to increase the number of works which are brought for review; c) to make sure that the contents of the journal respond, as much as possible, to the interests of the scientists and professionals in the field; and d) to increase the journal’s reach.
