Arts-based tourism is recognised as an important tool for sustainable development, as it connects local stories, creativity, and communities into authentic experiences for visitors. This approach lies at the very core of the People Powered Tourism project, which emphasises the active role of local stakeholders in shaping the tourism offer.
Considering the resources available—particularly those related to literature and the visual and performing arts in Slavonski Brod, where the field-based project activities take place—we have chosen, among other initiatives, to focus on the development of arts-based tourism.
A strong foundation in literary heritage and contemporary literary practices, an active local cultural scene, and accessible public spaces together create a solid basis for the development of artistic content that can serve as platforms for interpretation, participation, and audience engagement.
Through the People Powered Tourism project, these resources are viewed as a foundation for the development of participatory and sustainable tourism content rooted in local identity and fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders in the joint shaping of the tourism offer.
