Innovative Tourism Development and the Role of the Local Community on HRT

Yesterday, Ives Vodanović Lukić, PhD, Research Associate at the Institute for Tourism, appeared on the Croatian Radio and Television (HRT) programme Dobro jutro, Hrvatska, together with Lucija Lebić, visual artist and art educator. They discussed the importance of involving local communities in tourism development, contemporary approaches to designing tourism experiences, and opportunities to apply scientific knowledge in the development of innovative tourism products.

The occasion for the appearance was the international People Powered Tourism project, which is based on the idea that local communities should play an active role in tourism development, from identifying potential and generating ideas to designing and implementing tourism activities.

The discussion also introduced contemporary tourism development concepts, such as transformative and regenerative tourism, which provide a broader framework for rethinking tourism experiences, relationships with places, and the role of local communities.

Examples of these approaches included the pilot programmes “Brod through Art and Heritage” and “Dilj through Nature and Community”, developed by the Institute for Tourism in cooperation with the Slavonski Brod–Posavina Area Tourist Board and local stakeholders.
