Prof. Josip Mikulić, PhD, at the conference “Can Croatia Achieve Sustainable Tourism?”

Yesterday (October 7), a business conference titled “Can Croatia Achieve Sustainable Tourism?” was held at Algebra Bernays University, organized by the Croatian Corporate Governance and Management Society (CCGM) under the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

The participants were welcomed by Tonči Glavina, Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Croatia, who praised the initiatives of the academic community and emphasized the importance of high-quality research for the development of informed and sustainable policies. Following him, Anita Knezović, PhD, gave an introductory address highlighting the need for stronger cooperation between science and practice in shaping tourism policies.

The keynote lecture was delivered by Prof. Josip Mikulić, PhD, from the Institute for Tourism, under the title “Tourism 2025: Between Growth, Vulnerability and Reform.” Mikulić pointed out that the summer peak season can no longer remain the main driving force of tourism development. Instead, attention must be shifted towards the pre- and post-season as well as continental destinations. He particularly stressed the importance of the German market and underlined the need to systematically monitor the rapid growth of non-commercial accommodation.

The program continued with a panel discussion on the key challenges of sustainable tourism in Croatia, while the final part was dedicated to a fireside chat focusing on the expectations of younger generations of tourists and their role in shaping the future of Croatia’s tourism offer.
