Social Innovations in Tourism and Local Community Development

In contemporary tourism, there is an increasing focus on social innovations—new ways of connecting people, resources, and ideas to ensure that tourism brings real value to the local community.

This very approach is being developed through the Interreg project People Powered Tourism, where tourism is not only an experience for visitors, but also a tool for strengthening local relationships, knowledge, and collaboration.

Through work with local stakeholders in the area surrounding Slavonski Brod, significant potential has been identified in underutilized natural and cultural resources, particularly in the Dilj Gora area, existing hiking infrastructure, and local family farms.

Based on this, a tourism product is being developed that goes a step beyond the traditional offer:
It connects time spent in nature with local stories and identity, encourages active participation of visitors, and empowers local stakeholders through the co-creation of the offer.

We are currently in the process of developing these types of tourism products, in collaboration with local stakeholders, with the goal of creating an offer that delivers long-term benefits—not only to visitors, but also to the community in which it is created.
