Can travelling change the way we experience a place?
Transformative tourism is increasingly recognised as an approach that emphasises experiences enabling visitors to develop a deeper connection with a destination, its heritage, nature, and local people.
Rather than focusing on quickly visiting attractions, these experiences are built around participation, learning, meaningful encounters, and personal engagement with the place.
These principles are at the heart of the pilot programmes developed within the People Powered Tourism project in Slavonski Brod and its surrounding area. Through art, nature, local stories, and the active involvement of the community, the aim is to create tourism experiences that enrich visitors' journeys while also preserving local identity and enhancing the quality of life of the local community.
The pilot activities will be implemented in September. Until then, we will introduce you to some of the approaches and ideas that have shaped their development.
