Doc. Dr. Sc. Matko Krce-Ivančić has published a scientific paper entitled Psychodynamics of the Pursuit of Happiness Beyond Nature in the latest issue of the scientific journal Socijalna Ekologija.
The article critically examines Sloterdijk’s understanding of globalization as an expansionist pursuit of happiness, which has taken on planetary dimensions, with tourism being just one of its manifestations. Krce-Ivančić demonstrates that happiness is largely taken for granted today, as it is mistakenly understood as a natural activity. Drawing on insights from contemporary psychoanalytic theory, the article argues that the problem with such an approach is that it excludes an understanding of the political nature of our pursuit of happiness. Krce-Ivančić emphasizes that nature is not a balanced whole that could serve as a model for an alternative psychodynamics of the pursuit of happiness. The article raises a number of questions about the meaning and content of concepts that are key to understanding tourism, most notably nature, globalization, and so-called sustainable development.
