Dr. Jasenka Kranjčević’s Paper on Zagreb’s Green Spaces Published in the HAZU Proceedings

The Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU) published in 2026 a collection of papers presented at the round table Urban Forests of the City of Zagreb: The City’s Lungs or Space for Urbanisation, held in March 2025. The round table was organised to mark the International Day of Forests, celebrated on 21 March, as well as 260 years of Croatian forestry.

The editors of the proceedings are Igor Anić and Branko Kincl, while Zlatko Karač served as executive editor.

The proceedings include a paper by Dr. Jasenka Kranjčević and Dr. Amir Muzur entitled Zagreb’s Green Spaces as a Cultural Tourism Potential, developed within the framework of the scientific project Activating Cultural Heritage in Croatian Tourism – AKULTUR.

The authors highlight the exceptional ecological, cultural and historical significance of Zagreb’s parks and forest areas, as well as their potential for sustainable integration into the city’s cultural tourism offer. The paper also emphasises the need to protect these areas from excessive urbanisation while recognising their social, cultural and recreational potential.

The paper is available in the HAZU digital collection at https://dizbi.hazu.hr/?pr=i&id=2756961
