On 23 September 2026, the workshop “Strengthening the Resilience of Tourism to Climate Change”, organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Sport, was held at Hotel Pagus on the island of Pag. The workshop was intended for tourism stakeholders, tourism boards, potential investors, owners of tourism facilities, project managers and technical experts, as well as representatives of the scientific and professional community, local residents and the wider public.
As part of the workshop, Dr Mira Zovko from the Institute for Tourism presented the NaTour4CChange project as a good practice example in the field of climate change adaptation in tourism destinations. The Institute for Tourism is the lead partner of the project, which focuses on strengthening the resilience of tourism destinations through the application of Nature-based Solutions (NbS).
The presentation “Adapting Tourism to Climate Change through Nature: Experiences from the NaTour4CChange Project” highlighted the potential of Nature-based Solutions to help tourism destinations respond to the challenges posed by climate change, as well as the importance of integrating such solutions into tourism planning and development.
The workshop focused on strengthening knowledge on the implementation of European and national guidelines for preparing public and private tourism infrastructure for climate change, which need to be taken into account throughout the entire project life cycle.
In addition to the presentation of the NaTour4CChange project, the workshop programme addressed the impacts of climate change on the image and tourism demand of Zadar County, the role of salt pans as ecosystems supporting climate change adaptation, biodiversity conservation and sustainable tourism in the Kolansko Blato area, climate change challenges in the Northern Velebit region, and the development of sustainable tourism on Pag in the context of climate change.The participation of the Institute for Tourism in the workshop contributed to the exchange of knowledge and experience on strengthening the climate resilience of tourism destinations and to connecting scientific knowledge with practical solutions for adapting tourism to climate change.
