The Institute for Tourism Presented the AKULTUR Project at the “Tradition of Our Elders” Event in Koprivnica

As part of the celebration of Koprivnica-Križevci County Day and the 32nd anniversary of its establishment, the “Tradition of Our Elders” event and local products fair was officially opened at Zrinski Square in Koprivnica.

This year’s event gathered a record number of exhibitors – 80 participants, including family farms, craftsmen, entrepreneurs, and associations from across the county. Visitors had the opportunity to explore a rich variety of local and traditional products, with a special focus on promoting the cultural and rural heritage of the Podravina and Prigorje regions.

The Institute for Tourism presented its scientific project “Activating Cultural Heritage in Croatian Tourism (AKULTUR)”, with a focus on the theme “Preservation, Enhancement, and Adaptive Reuse of Corn Cribs and Barns – Do They Have a Future or What Is Their Fate?” The project aims to research and valorize wooden rural architecture, with the goal of preserving it and integrating it into the sustainable development of tourism.

Representing the Institute for Tourism at the fair were the project leader Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jasenka Kranjčević, and project collaborators Dr. Luka Valožić and Leona Matotek, M.Sc. in Geography, PhD candidate at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb.

Participation in such events is part of the Institute's ongoing efforts to connect scientific work with local communities and to contribute to the promotion and preservation of traditional architecture as an important part of Croatia’s cultural heritage.
