Insisting on expanding the scope of research, in 2019. the first national survey of tourist demand characteristics in Croatia was launched entitled "Attitudes and consumption of tourists in Croatia" or, in short, TOMAS Croatia 2019. This was the first time the visitor survey was conducted in both the Adriatic and the continental part of Croatia, as well as the first time a research of the tourist market covered the whole year (and not only the summer months). The data was to be collected from May 2019 to May 2020., however, data collection was halted in March 2020 due to a pandemic caused by a new coronavirus and, consequently, restrictions on the mobility of people around the world.
The survey was conducted from May 2019 to March 2020 on a sample of 13,582 respondents in hotels, hostels, camps and family accommodation in 143 destinations along the country. Domestic tourists and foreign tourists from 24 main generating markets are included.
Despite the somewhat smaller time coverage of the research, it is important to emphasize that in the segment of summer tourist demand in coastal destinations, the TOMAS Croatia 2019 survey is an extension of the continuous TOMAS Summer survey and still enables conclusions to be drawn on the summer tourist demand trends.
The aim of this survey is to profile tourist demand in Croatia according to the motivation, activities, satisfaction and consumption, main regions, seasons and type of accommodation.
TOMAS Croatia 2019 survey was funded and promoted by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Croatia and the Croatian National Tourist Board.
