The NaTour4CChange project, for which the Institute for Tourism is the Lead Partner, is entering its final phase with an important international policy event at the heart of European decision-making. On 29 September 2026, the final NaTour4CChange Policy & Networking Event, entitled “Towards an EU climate-resilience roadmap for sustainable tourism”, will take place at the European Parliament in Brussels.
The event will bring together representatives of European institutions, Mediterranean regions and tourism destinations, the tourism sector, European tourism networks and other relevant stakeholders. The aim is to open a discussion on how the results and experiences developed through the project can be translated into stronger European policies and mechanisms for adapting tourism to climate change.
Throughout the project, solutions have been developed and tested that demonstrate how tourism destinations can respond to climate challenges, reduce pressure on natural resources, and increase the resilience of local communities and the tourism sector at the same time.
The final event at the European Parliament therefore represents an important step in transferring these experiences to the European policy level.
The discussion will focus on:
- improving climate-resilient tourism governance in the Mediterranean
- scaling up the application of nature-based solutions in tourism destinations
- strengthening links between tourism, climate change, biodiversity and cohesion policies
- enhancing regional coordination and implementation mechanisms
- future policy and funding priorities beyond 2027
- implementation of the new EU Sustainable Tourism Strategy
The event will be hosted by Member of the European Parliament Nikolina Brnjac and will bring together representatives of the European Commission, regional authorities, European tourism networks and Mediterranean initiatives.
For the Institute for Tourism, this event represents a particularly important milestone. As the Lead Partner of the NaTour4CChange project, the Institute has coordinated the international partnership and the development of an approach aimed at increasing the climate resilience of tourism destinations throughout the project. Concluding the project at the European Parliament provides an opportunity to present the results of several years of work to European decision-makers and experts, while creating space for their further application in shaping policies for sustainable and climate-resilient tourism.
We invite representatives of institutions, the tourism sector, destinations, the scientific and professional communities, and all interested stakeholders to join us in Brussels and take part in the discussion on the future of climate-resilient tourism in Europe.
