Lecture “Corn Cribs and Barns – Do They Have a Future or What Is Their Fate?” Held in Novigrad Podravski

Organized by the Municipality of Novigrad Podravski and the Tourist Board of the Central Podravina Area, in cooperation with the Institute for Tourism in Zagreb, a lecture titled “Corn Cribs and Barns – Do They Have a Future or What Is Their Fate?” was held in Novigrad Podravski.

The lecture provided an opportunity to present the current findings of scientific research conducted within the internal project "Activating Cultural Heritage in Croatian Tourism – AKULTUR", implemented by the Institute for Tourism. The presentation was delivered by the project leader, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jasenka Kranjčević, and project collaborators Dr. Luka Valožić and Leona Matotek, M.Sc. in Geography, a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb.

In addition to presenting research results, the lecture showcased examples of the adaptive reuse of wooden rural architecture from various parts of the world, Europe, and Croatia, highlighting the possibilities of its revitalization through tourism.

This was the first collaboration between the Tourist Board of the Central Podravina Area and the Institute for Tourism. The importance of implementing a project focused on the protection of traditional rural architecture in the Podravina region was particularly emphasized. This cooperation lays the groundwork for future joint activities and continued efforts in preserving the region's cultural heritage.

At a time when traditional architecture is rapidly disappearing, such initiatives play a vital role in the documentation, preservation, and interpretation of cultural heritage, creating opportunities for its active integration into the sustainable development of tourism.
