Leona Matotek has published a scientific review paper entitled “Tourism Climate Indices in Tourism Geography: A Systematic Review of Their Development, Application and Research Trends” in the journal Geoadria (Vol. 31, No. 2).
The paper provides a systematic review of the development and application of tourism climate indices used to assess the climatic suitability of tourist destinations and activities. Based on an analysis of 94 scientific papers published between 1985 and 2025, the study identifies key research trends, methodological approaches and areas of application. The findings highlight the growing importance of developing indices tailored to specific tourism activities and climate change, as well as their application in sustainable tourism development planning.
The paper is available in open access on the link.
The paper was developed as part of the PACT-VIRA research project, funded by the Croatian Science Foundation (HRZZ).
