Within the framework of the IIIrd MED Sustainable Tourism Convention, held on 18–19 June 2026 in Barcelona, the NaTour4CChange project organized a special partner event entitled “Investing in Nature for Climate-Resilient Tourism Destinations: Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in Mediterranean Regions”, which was also an official event of #EUGreenWeek2026.
The event took place on 18 June in the form of a project results exhibition and networking cocktail reception, bringing together around 130 participants, including representatives of public authorities, research institutions, tourism organizations, and project partners from across the Mediterranean.
The objective of the event was to foster discussion on the role of investments in nature and Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in strengthening the resilience of tourism destinations to climate change and supporting the long-term sustainability of tourism development.
Through an interactive exhibition, participants were introduced to solutions, governance models, and experiences gained in the pilot destinations involved in the NaTour4CChange project. Attendees had the opportunity to explore good practice examples from five different Mediterranean regions and seven pilot destinations, while engaging directly with project partners on the challenges and opportunities of implementing Nature-based Solutions in tourism.
The pilot locations presented at the event were: Hutovo Blato (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Ori Zakros & Koufonisi (Crete, Greece), Dugi Otok (Croatia), Tavolara Marine Protected Area (Sardinia, Italy), Capo Carbonara Marine Protected Area (Sardinia, Italy), Cabo de Gata-Níjar (Andalusia, Spain), and Cap Ferrat Marine Protected Area (France).
The event provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and the development of new collaborations among experts working in sustainable tourism, climate adaptation, and destination management.
The partner event was organized within the framework of the IIIrd MED Sustainable Tourism Convention, hosted by the Barcelona Provincial Council in cooperation with the Community4Tourism Partnership and the Mediterranean Sustainable Tourism Community. The Convention gathered approximately 250 participants from across the Mediterranean and focused on discussions about the future of sustainable, resilient, and inclusive tourism in the context of climate change, digital transition, and the circular and regenerative economy.
By organizing this event, the NaTour4CChange project further reinforced its role in promoting Nature-based Solutions as an important tool for enhancing the resilience of tourism destinations and advancing the sustainable development of Mediterranean tourism.
